The holiday season is an excellent time to visit White Rock Memorial Park (Bright Walk in White Rock) for its lighting displays.
The city of "White Rock" was named after a 486-tonne granite white boulder that stands on the beach near the promenade. The rock was supposedly a glacial erratic that drifted south during the last ice age and turned white from seabird droppings; however, once it was given a name, the city painted it white.
