The camera captures the Ruhrtaler free range pigs at close range as they roam around this farm in the beautiful Ruhr valley of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Als Sohn einer Bauernfamilie aus Essen habe ich bereits sehr früh meine Liebe zu Schweinen entdeckt. Und klar war auch: Ich wollte Landwirt werden. Also habe ich eine landwirtschaftliche Ausbildung absolviert und anschließend Landwirtschaft in Osnabrück studiert. Durch ein Praktikum in England habe ich dann die Freiland- haltung von Schweinen kennengelernt und war auf Anhieb begeistert. Die Tiere so munter und in einer Haltungsform zu sehen, in der Sie ihre natürlichen Verhaltensweisen ausleben können, macht mir viel Freude: Schweine suhlen sich eben gerne, sie wühlen in der Erde und spielen ausgelassen im Stroh. Noch während des Studiums habe ich begonnen, diese Idee umzusetzen und die ersten Schweine „rauszulassen“. Das gute Leben der Schweine ist mir dabei genauso wichtig wie das neue Ernährungsbewusstsein der deutschen Verbraucher. Denn sie achten immer mehr darauf, wo ihr Fleisch herkommt und unter welchen Bedingungen die Tiere gehalten werden. Ich möchte meinen Kunden eine echte Alternative bieten, die ihnen nicht nur qualitativ hochwertiges Fleisch liefert, sondern auch das Wissen, dass das Schwein bei mir noch Schwein sein darf
